Hooked on Fishing-YEA

“Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs” is a fishing skills program for young people that focuses on preventing drug use through sport fishing and aquatic resource education. This award-winning program has spread nationwide since1986.

This twelve-week program is offered free to students in 5th through 7th grade. Each week the students are engaged in hands on activities to learn about fishing. The program begins with basic fishing skills, advancing each week to more complicated skills. The students will learn how to rig fishing line, knot tying, and how to bait the hook, among other skills. The program also focuses on fishing regulations, fish biology, and making better life choices. At the end of the program, students and their families are invited to a fishing day to showcase their new skills.

The “Hooked on Fishing – Not on Drugs” program is a great alternative to drug use, and it encourages a positive use of time to lead to a better and safer lifestyle for at risk youth.
